History
Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church, a mission church plant of the former Augusta Street Presbyterian Church in downtown Greenville SC, began meeting together for worship services in May 1969 under the leadership of Dr. Thomas G. Cross, the former pastor of Augusta Street Presbyterian Church. The first worship service began the fulfillment of a vision for ministering to the needs of the growing Eastside Greenville community.
In November 1969, the membership pledged funds to purchase property on Mitchell Road. Less than two years later the initial building was completed and the congregation moved into its new facility at 207 Mitchell Road in May 1971.
Over the years, church leadership has placed a strong emphasis on Missions, Evangelism, Church Planting and Christian Education. Mitchell Road continues in its commitment to Missions by supporting numerous missions agencies and missionaries in North America and internationally. The church has actively participated in multiple church plants in Upstate South Carolina and across the country. Mitchell Road Christian Academy (K3 - 8th grade) was founded in the fall of 1973 and now has enrollment of nearly 400 students. Campus Outreach (Greenville) has ministered among area college campuses since the mid 1990's.
Mitchell Road, a member of the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA) and Calvary Presbytery, currently has approximately 1200 communicant members discipling people of all ages through a wide variety of ministries.
